TROY, ALABAMA - March 9, 2016 - Stephanie Baker, a local businesswoman and active community leader announced her candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Troy City Council Tuesday evening.
“It has been very rewarding to be involved in so many aspects of the City of Troy, from local nonprofits, to cultural arts initiatives, to business development projects. I have a unique perspective and understanding of the vital role the public sector has in our industries, our charitable interests, and our quality of life. I consider serving on the council to be an extension of my service to our community.” said Baker.
Baker currently serves as the Director of Market Development with KW Plastics Recycling Division. She believes her job, which utilizes her background in economic development and policy work along with her expertise in communications and strategic planning, compliments her commitment to her community, making her the ideal advocate for industry and community interests on the council.
“I truly believe that God has orchestrated a unique blend of my experiences, talents, contributions, passions and values to serve my hometown for a time such as this.” said Baker.
Current District 4 Councilman, Johnny Witherington, recently announced that he will not be placing his name on the ballot in the August 23 municipal election.
“Councilman Witherington has honored us by setting a standard of integrity and humility in his service. He has great affection for our city, and it would be an honor to continue his noble legacy of servant leadership.” said Baker.
Although the qualifying period doesn’t begin until July, Baker has launched her campaign to begin discussing the issues and values that are most important to members of her district.

“I’m looking forward to talking with my neighbors and the residents all around District 4, hearing their ideas as well as any concerns, answering questions, and earning their support.” said Baker.
She is a graduate of Pike Liberal Arts School and Birmingham-Southern College. Prior to joining the recycling industry, Baker worked with the Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board, which is the largest economic development recruitment agency for the 5-county Birmingham area. She has been recognized both professionally and locally for her extensive involvement and leadership in her advocacy work.
Baker is married to Matt Baker with whom she has two daughters, Campbell (age 9) and Sara Gray (age 6).
