So, I need to let you in on a secret... today is actually my husband's birthday! Meet the #StephanieforCityCouncil Treasurer, and Binder Keeper (and apparently new bedtime enforcer...he seriously just told me I needed to get some sleep. Which I do. ) But I couldn't let the day get away before shining some of the spotlight on him.
"I don't know how you do it all!"
I hear that comment all the time, sometimes more often than I like. And the reality is... I don't. I could never balance my job, the kids' schedules, after hours meetings, homework, bible study, softball practices or searching the house over for that missing shoe / library book / thermometer.
I couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't do it all without this guy right by my side.
When I was first approached with the opportunity to run for City Council, he was the first one I discussed it with. Without hesitation, he began listing all the reasons I should run, none of which had a thing to do with our personal lives.
He gets me. He knows my strenths and weaknesses and counter-balances those with his own.
He's my own secret weapon.
We all know the saying about "behind every good man you can find a good woman."
My man doesn't really stand ahead or behind me. After all, who are we kidding? Nobody stands still for very long around here, anyway.
Thankfully, I've been blessed me with a husband that stands right with me, shoulder to shoulder. Don't get me wrong, Matt confidently leads our household and it's one of the many things I love about him.
We will soon celebrate our 13th anniversary and I can't think of one day where I didn't feel like he was on my team. Sometimes he's the coach and sometimes he's the cheerleader (he might prefer another term, let's say a fanatic fan).
So, there you go. That's my secret. No man behind the curtain or crazy energy smoothies for me. I've got Matt Baker by my side with God as our guide.
